2022 Goose Creek District Pinewood Derby

Sterling, VA- With over 80 cars and 20 packs represented from all over Loudoun County, VA, the cyclone of snow couldn't stop the 2022 Goose Creek District Championship Pinewood Derby Hosted by Pack 1154 Chartered by George C Marshall International Center (Ashburn, VA) being held at the former Sears location in the Dulles Town Center.

The day ended with a with a remarkable finish, where first place Grand Champion Xander of Pack 982 (Leesburg, VA) with car "Midas" was determined the winner with an average difference of four one thousandth of a second from runner up finisher Reid of Pack 1737 (Aldie/Middleburg, VA) with car "Fadeaway" where they had reversed their finish in the earlier Arrow of Light Class.

Special Design Winner - Best Non-Car Car - Nimbus 2000 (Open Class)

New for 2022 was the special design awards in various categories to recognize the amazing showing the best designed cars at the event. This years crop were a special bunch, recognizing the time and talent of both the scouts and the family and friends from the open class.

Our 2022 raffle was also a success, with over 20 awesome prizes that were generously donated, highlights of Alps Mountaineering camping gear including two Blaze +20 sleeping bags and various other scouting stuff such as trekking poles, sleeping pads, camping stools, walkie talkies, hammocks and gift cards.

Along with a healthy crowd that braved the snow at the Dulles Town Center, the event streamed to over 500 viewers from all over the United States, as traveling participants and distant relatives were able to watch the action live. The stream will continue to be available on our Youtube channel to watch back.

A super thanks goes to Preston Lough for being our announcer for his 8th straight event. Every year the organizers receive glowing praise for the energy, humor and humility he brings to the event.

Special recognition goes units in the district that volunteered for the derby with scouts, adult leaders and parents (Troop 1154, 2501, 58, 1907 & Pack 1154) and special thanks to Alicia Lough & Trevor Alpeter for their continued support of this event. The derby could not exist without these volunteers. Lastly, a special thank you goes to one of our Derby Organizers, Jason Beshore (Pack 1154) for stepping up and running the District Derby since 2015. His vision for a big event to celebrate the derby with scouts from all over the district has made the Goose Creek District Derby into a well run and high quality event.
